This masterful Father Christmas is extraordinary in design and creation. Carved out of solid piece of a hard wood linden tree, this incredible piece stands 21 inches high and 9 inches wide. Looking into these omniscient eyes, we can not help but think that the artist's representation here is that the Father Christmas is God, his treasure on his back is (sack of mysterious gifts) the earth. The magical scene of the Nativity painted on the front and the angel and Wisemen on the back are done with painstaking detail and effort.

Due to the intricate carving and detailed painting that each piece requires, it may take weeks to complete even a single sculpture as it moves from one village to the next. A single sculpture may travel up to 1500 miles throughout Russia and involve more than 20 different artistic techniques before making its journey abroad.

The Signature Masterpiece is completely freehand painted in a combination of watercolor and acrylic paints. An additional level of skill is required to paint in watercolor, since the artist can not correct mistakes when painting in this medium. The Linden wood used for the Signature Masterpiece Collection is known for the light grain and color but the color of each tree's wood will vary. Talented artists must adjust the color intensity for each piece, layering the transparent watercolor until the right depth is achieved. Thousands of brushstrokes and many layers of hand mixed paints make each sculpture unique. Therefore, no two sculptures will ever be identical.

About the G DeBrekht Signature Masterpiece Collection: Each sculpture in the Masterpiece Collection is first handcarved by a master Russian carver from aged linden wood. The seasoning process of the wood will cull the premiun quality portions of the wood for carving, this process ensures that the Masterpiece sculptures are of heirloom quality.

Once carved, the sculpture is then delivered to the artists for embellishment. As many as five Russian artists will contribute their artistic ability in order to complete a single piece. Each piece is meticulously hand painted. The artist applies layer upon layer of color until the desired depth of color has been achieved.

The seasoning process will cull the premium quality portions of the wood for carving, while discarding approximately 60% of the timber due to splitting, molding or other imperfections revealed during the aging process. This process ensures that the Masterpiece sculptures are of heirloom quality and will provide enjoyment for future generations.

The sculpture is then delivered to the artists for embelishment. As many as five artists will contribute their artistic ability in order to complete a single piece. Each figure is meticulously free hand painted. For the Signature Masterpiece Collection, the artist is faced with the difficult task of applying layer upon layer of watercolor until the desired depth of color has been achieved. Each artisan relies on their own skill in pursuit of perfection.

Each sculpture in the Masterpiece Collection is limited either to the year of production or by number, which is indicated on the bottom of each sculpture. Each piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. The collection itself is limited by the mere nature of the handcrafted work, limited by the number we are able to produce at any given time.

Each Masterpiece is an original work of art and should be cared for as such. Avoid placing these sculptures in direct sunlight. Dust figures with a soft feather duster or soft cloth, do not apply household cleaning agents or rub them vigorously.
