Description
A beautiful three level Krakow Nativity adorned with flowers. The holy family is tucked away inside the center of the scene below an awning decorated with silver flowers. Over the flowers is the copula of the Wawel castle (a traditional part of every Krakow Nativity) topped with a golden star. The next level features three steeples topped with flags of Poland and the Polish national eagle.
This colorfully detailed nativity from Poland measures approximately 5 inches tall x 3.35 inches wide x 1.5 inches deep and is made in Poland by szopka Krakowaska competition winner Jan Freiberg. As part of the szopka Krakowska tradition of nativity art in Poland, artists make these luminous nativity scenes from foil paper, cardboard and beads.
Each year, on the first Thursday of December, artists gather in Krakow, Poland to display the Christmas nativity cribs they have created. The Polish making of the szopka Krakowska is part of the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.
