Description

Each clay figure in this Traditional Andean Dress Nativity Scene is hand-painted in traditional highland dress, showcasing the distinctive styles of traditional Peruvian clothing. The shepherds wear striped ponchos and chullo hats with earflaps, while Mary is depicted in a flowing gown and shawl inspired by Andean weaving traditions. Joseph’s long cloak and brimmed hat reflect the garments still worn in rural villages today.

Tallest standing figure measures about 2.5 inches tall.

A Nativity Acene that undoubtedly comes from South America.

Posted by Franciszek Marek on Nov 9th 2025

This is my first Peruvian Nativity Scene, but not my first South American set. And like all Nativity Scenes from this region, this set has unique features that, at first glance, suggest it didn’t originate in Europe or North America. The figurines are lovely – full of details and colors, presenting the traditional clothes of Peruvian People. The size of the figures is a good compromise - they're neither too big nor too small. Everyone will probably find a place in their home to present them. My only doubt about this nativity scene concerns the description of the figurines. The shop description states that the figurines in the hats and earflaps are Shepherds. To me, they look more like the Three Wise Men.
