Description
What an interesting nativity scene from Ecuador. The Erythrina edulis (common name Basul) tree is a legume that is native to the Andean region and is commonly grown as both a natural fence and an edible crop. It is known as the Tree Bean of the Andes. A pod of the Basu tree has been transformed into a uniquely Ecuadorian nativity scene. Mary, Joseph and Baby are made from corn husk and beans. A perfect piece for the nativity collector.
Hand made in Ecuador and fair trade imported. Pod measures approx. 2.5"H x 3.5"W. Measurements may vary due to size of pod.
Artisns: Camari is a Quechua word meaning gift and true to it's name it is also a fair trade organization that has been a gift for many people of Ecuador. Camari, a member of the World Fair trade Organization (WFTO), was founded in 1981 to address the problems inherent in the marketing of small-scale agriculture and the production of handicrafts in the rural and marginalized communities of Ecuador. This Nativity scene was acquired through a Fair Trade organization. Fair Trade pays impoverished artisans a fair price for their work. Fair Trade puts people first, not profits.
