Alluvial clay used for this unique nativity set comes from the banks of the Ucayali river, a tributary of the Amazon. Most of the color pigments such as red, yellow, white and black used to decorate this nativity also occur naturally in the area.

Indigenous and traditional methods are still in practice for creating these artful nativity pieces. Joseph stands 6 inches tall.

This nativity set is fair trade imported and hand-crafted by traditional artisans of the Shipibo tribe of Peru, known for their quality ceramic art.

    6" Alluvial Clay Nativity Scene

I like the unique style of this depiction, and like the character's dress, especially the head wear reflective of the culture where is was produced. Will be included in a public display of world nativities this Advent Season.
